I didn't wake up one morning and decide I wanted to start a wellness company. Atlas was built slowly - through experiences, questions, setbacks, choices, lessons, and a journey I didn't realize was leading anywhere at the time. For years, I thought I was simply trying to build a better life. Looking back, I can see I was also building Atlas. Where It Began Long before I understood words like wellness, transformation, or stewardship, I saw them lived. I grew up fairly poor in what we simply knew as the Barrio. My mother, Teresa, raised our family with a kind of strength I wouldn't fully understand until much later in life. She had grown up in rural Michoacan, Mexico, in circumstances where survival required everyone to contribute. Eventually, she came to Arizona carrying very little materially, but an extraordinary capacity for faith, work, sacrifice, humor, and service. We didn't have much. The strange thing is, I didn't know we were poor. There was food. There was family. There was faith. There was always another day. My mother eventually worked for the same employer for twenty-seven years. She raised her children, bought her own home, and quietly demonstrated something I would spend much of my adult life learning how to articulate: Love looks like service. Faith looks like showing up. And strength doesn't always need to announce itself. I didn't know it then, but some of the principles that would eventually shape Atlas were already being modeled for me. The Kid Outside the Weight Room Fitness entered my life long before Atlas did. In my neighborhood there was a youth center called the Washington Activity Center. Everyone simply called it The Center. It had a park, basketball courts, a snack bar - and a weight room. Atlas Wellness AZ, LLC Page 2 You had to be at least fourteen to go inside. I remember standing outside the door and looking through the windows at the older guys lifting weights. They seemed confident. Strong. Cool. I wanted in. Once I was old enough to start training, something clicked. At first I was inconsistent, like plenty of teenagers and young adults are. I'd train for a while, stop, come back, learn a little more. But the interest never disappeared. Years later, after the end of a significant relationship, I suddenly found myself with something I hadn't experienced in a long time: Space. I had spent so much of my free time in that relationship that when it ended, I wasn't quite sure what to do with myself. So I went back to the gym. And for perhaps the first time in my adult life, I made a conscious decision to remain single and focus on myself. That decision changed me. The gym stopped being somewhere I went and became part of how I lived. I started learning about training, nutrition, supplements, recovery, hydration, technique, and eventually human performance. My body changed dramatically. But looking back, the physical transformation wasn't the most important part. I wasn't just building muscle. I was building a foundation. When the Old Life Stopped Fitting For more than twenty years, I worked in insurance. It gave me experience I'm grateful for and allowed me to help people protect what mattered to them. But eventually I found myself increasingly disconnected from the life I was living. From the outside, things could look fine. Inside, I kept asking questions. Is this really the life I was created to live? Why do I keep experiencing some of the same patterns? Atlas Wellness AZ, LLC Page 3 Why can I understand what I should do and still struggle to actually change it? Why does life keep happening to me? Therapy became part of that journey. So did reading. Journaling. Psychology. Neuroscience. Nutrition. Mindfulness. Strength training. Habit formation. And eventually, faith. I wasn't looking for a single philosophy to explain everything. I was trying to understand. The more honestly I looked at myself, the more I began noticing connections. Things I had once dismissed as simply "that's who I am" sometimes had histories. Habits. Beliefs. Conditioning. Protective responses. Repeated patterns. And that realization changed the question. Instead of only asking: "Why am I like this?" I began asking: "Where did this come from?" Judgment slowly became curiosity. And curiosity gave me something judgment rarely had: Choice. Change Required Action There was another lesson I had to learn. Understanding something intellectually wasn't enough. At one point, I was miserable in my career and desperately wanted something in my life to change. After months of therapy and reflection, I decided to do something that sounded almost ridiculous for me. Atlas Wellness AZ, LLC Page 4 For years, I had trained after work. I was a heavy sleeper. The idea of voluntarily waking up before sunrise to exercise seemed impossible. So naturally, I decided I would wake up at 4:30 a.m. and be in the gym by 5:00. It wasn't really about the clock. It was about proving to myself that I could act differently before I felt different. Those mornings taught me something I would carry forward: Change often requires participation before certainty. Then one morning, while finishing a triceps workout, a thought appeared: What if I became a personal trainer? That was it. No business plan. No Atlas. No grand vision. Just a thought. But something inside me lit up. A possibility. A little hope. A seed. From Information to Integration As I continued changing my own life, I began realizing that people rarely struggle because they're completely lacking information. Most of us already know a surprising amount about what we should do. Move more. Eat better. Sleep. Manage stress. Set boundaries. Be consistent. Think differently. The harder question is: Why don't we consistently live what we already know? That question became central to what would eventually become the Atlas philosophy. Atlas Wellness AZ, LLC Page 5 I started recognizing that behavior doesn't exist in isolation. Our beliefs, habits, relationships, environment, stress, sleep, past experiences, identity, and daily choices interact with one another. Change one piece and you may get a result. Understand the system and you can begin changing the trajectory. And I began seeing something else in my own life. Ideas that once required enormous conscious effort slowly became natural. Understanding became practice. Practice became habit. Habit became identity. Eventually I wasn't constantly trying to remember everything I had learned. I was living it. That is when I began to understand integration. Knowledge can inform us. But transformation happens when what we know becomes part of how we live. The mind understands. The body practices. Eventually, the two become one. Move. Nourish. Become. Only later did I realize that much of what I had been learning could be understood through three interconnected ideas. Move. Strength. Movement. Mobility. Physical capability. Learning through the body that we are capable of doing difficult things. Nourish. Nutrition. Recovery. Sleep. Stress. Relationships. Daily habits. Learning to support rather than constantly deplete ourselves. Become. Identity. Awareness. Beliefs. Behavior. Purpose. Accountability. Learning to live in greater alignment with the person we are becoming. None exists completely independently from the others. Atlas Wellness AZ, LLC Page 6 That is why Atlas would never make sense to me as simply a fitness company. The body matters. But so does the person living inside it. The Foundation Beneath It All My questions eventually reached somewhere I hadn't expected. God. For much of my life, my analytical mind wanted evidence, explanation, certainty. I questioned faith. I questioned whether God was real. I questioned Jesus Christ. I questioned what I actually believed rather than simply accepting what I had been told. What I found wasn't the end of questioning. I found relationship. My faith in Jesus Christ became the foundation that gave everything else I had learned a deeper meaning. For me, wellness stopped being simply about maximizing myself. It became stewardship. How do I care for the body I've been given? How do I use what I've learned? How do I love people well? How do I serve? How do I live intentionally with whatever time, ability, opportunity, and influence I've been entrusted with? Atlas welcomes people of every background and belief. I don't expect the people I coach to share my faith. But I also won't hide the foundation from which I lead and serve. For me, Atlas exists because of it. The Monday Everything Changed I still thought the transition would happen gradually. Atlas Wellness AZ, LLC Page 7 I had begun pursuing education in personal training, nutrition, and wellness coaching. The plan was responsible and predictable: keep working in insurance, save money, prepare myself, and eventually make the transition. God apparently had a different timeline. One Monday morning, I walked into work expecting another normal day. Before the office door had even closed behind me, I heard: "Ramiro, when you have a minute, we need to speak." I was being let go. Unexpectedly. I listened. Then I said three words: "Ok, I understand." I packed my things into a box, handed over my keys, and walked to my car. I was shocked. And underneath the shock was something I didn't expect. I felt thankful. I felt free. Panic eventually arrived too, of course. But instead of immediately scrambling to replace what I had lost, I made a decision. I would pray about it that day. I would act tomorrow. That night, I slept better than I had in a long time. Tuesday morning I woke up refreshed. I prayed. I asked God to guide me toward what I needed to do. And then I started building. The idea that had appeared during an ordinary triceps workout years earlier finally had somewhere to go. Atlas Wellness AZ became real. From the Bottom Up. Inside Out. Atlas Wellness AZ, LLC Page 8 The phrase came later. The principle had been developing for years. We often try to change our lives from the outside. A different body. A new diet. A new routine. A different job. More motivation. More information. Those things can matter. But I've learned that lasting change often requires us to understand what's happening underneath them. What do I believe? What patterns keep repeating? What environment am I creating? What am I practicing every day? What story am I living from? Who am I becoming? That's what From the Bottom Up. Inside Out. means to me. It doesn't mean there is one formula for transformation. It means we look beyond the visible outcome and become curious about the person and the systems underneath it. Because when the foundation changes, what we build upon it can change too. Why Atlas Exists Atlas isn't my story. It's what grew out of my story. I don't believe life has simply happened to me anymore. I believe life has formed me. The struggles. The victories. Atlas Wellness AZ, LLC Page 9 The questions. The setbacks. The relationships. The healing. The discipline. The faith. Every one became part of the person writing these words. Atlas is my way of taking what I've learned and placing it in service of someone else. Not because I have every answer. I don't. But I know what it's like to ask the questions. I know what it's like to want your circumstances to change. I know what it's like to discover that some of the deepest change has to begin within you. And I know what it's like to look back one day and realize: I'm not the same person meeting life anymore. That's what I want Atlas to make possible for others. Not perfection. Not another temporary burst of motivation. Not simply a different body. A stronger body can be part of it. Better nutrition can be part of it. Different habits can be part of it. Greater awareness can be part of it. But the larger hope is that all of those pieces begin working together - that what you know becomes what you practice, what you practice becomes part of who you are, and the life you build begins reflecting that change. If you've ever wondered: Why do I keep repeating the same patterns? Why do I know what to do but struggle to do it? Is this really all life is? Can I actually become someone different? I've asked those questions too. I can't promise you an easy path. But I can tell you what my own life has taught me: Transformation is possible. And you don't have to walk toward it alone.
